A new generation of young musicians are being inspired to take up brass instruments thanks to the hard work of tutors Louise Perryman and Richard Kitley.

On Tuesday 13th June the Training Band held a small summer concert to entertain their families and friends. The players were really excited to show everyone what they could do and there were even some solos! The audience thoroughly enjoyed the concert and were impressed with the progress that they had all made over the year. It was great to see how they had all grown in confidence and that all of their hard work and practice had paid off.

Midsomer Norton and Radstock Silver Band have a proud history of nurturing the development of young musicians; some players who started in the 1980’s are still playing with the main band now!

The Training Band is fully inclusive and is registered Band Safe with Brass Bands England and the tutors are fully DBS checked and registered. So, if you harbour a desire to play a brass instrument, make that dream a reality and get in touch with us.

Principal cornet, Kit, did us proud by facilitating the unveiling of the Miner’s Silhouette’s by Michael Eavis with a fanfare flourish. Then he ran like the wind to join the rest of the band at St Nicholas Church field to open the Radstock Festival 2023.

The Natural Theatre Company put on a spectacular show of surreal sights and wonders so it was only fitting that we should open the festival with a light hearted programme kicked off with Those Magnificent Men (in their flying machines), followed by our very own Musical Director, Gareth Key’s arrangement of Mr Blue Sky and then moving on to such pieces as Floral Dance and Ground Force (especially for the Flower Pot Head ladies) and as a finale the classic singalong favourite Sweet Caroline.

But the fun didn’t end there, oh no. Kit and Trevor (solo horn) made a reappearance later as part of the Natural Theatre Company’s performance entitled “The Visionary”. We’re still waiting for that call from Steven Spielberg…..

It was an honour to be able to open up the Coronation Celebrations at the West Hill Recreation Ground on Sunday 7th May. The crowd really appreciated our mixture of Pomp and Circumstance and popular singalong favourites!
